Nicasia & Yinova Espinoza Paso and FamilyLocation: Tipitapa, NicaraguaNicasia is 78 years old, and her daughter, Yinova, is 59 years old. They live with and raise Yinova’s daughter together. Yinova’s daughter’s is Yasmin; she’s 11 years old and in the 6th grade. Their current home is 5mx10m with dirt floors, and holes in the roof and walls. Yasmin is a seamstress and earns about $66/month to support the family. Both Nicasia and Yasmin struggle to find job opportunities in their community. Martha Picado and FamilyLocation: Tipitapa, NicaraguaMartha is 32 years old and works at home taking care of her kids, cooking, cleaning, and taking care of their home as best she can. She made it through sixth grade. Her husband, Adalyd (51), works in a mariachi band. He never went to school. Together, they have three kids: Dalisky (9), Paola (3), and Dalalys (1), and they earn about $120/month. They are very proud to own land and look forward to having a better home built upon it. The family currently lives in a 4mx6m structure made of rotting wood, zinc sheets, and dirt floors. They hope to have enough space to live and avoid diseases in the dirt.Martha's new home is made possible with the sale of 2150 S. Fidelina del Socorro Rivera Luna & Rafael Rocho and FamilyLocation: Tipitapa, NicaraguaRafael & Fidelina work hard to support their six children. Rafael (45) works very long hours as a driver, and Fidelina (37) stays home to take care of the kids and the house. They are a family of eight living in 10mx3m structure. Feeding all the kids is sometimes a challenge for them, so they hope with a new home, they’ll spend less money on trying to fix the house and have more to spend on food. Rafael hopes for happiness and serenity in their new home. Celina del Carmen Espinoza Guzman and Family Location: Tipitapa, NicaraguaCelina is 65 years old and lives with and her husband, Porfirio, who is 55 years old. Celina was never able to attend school as a child. She stays home cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the current home as best she can. Porfirio works as a shepard, earning about $50/month. Both Celina and Porfirio volunteer every weekend to help build the community. The home they currently live in is made of plastic and wood. The walls and roof are made of zinc sheets and has many holes in it. When it rains, everything they own gets soaked.Celina's new home is made possible with the sale of 822 North Street, which sold on June 29th in cooperation with our listing agent Francine D. Alba Estel Centeno and Family Location: Tipitapa, NicaraguaAlba is 34 years old, and is a single mother to three children. Alba has a daughter, Rubi, who is 17 years old, and two sons, Edwin, 15 years old, and Manyell, 10 years old. Alba explained that living as a single mother is a major difficulty but she’s very proud to have been able to obtain her own land. Alba looks forward to having a safe place for children to play and not getting wet when it rains. “I do not feel poor, but blessed,” Alba says.Alba's new home is made possible with the sale of the Elk Ridge Ranch Estate, which sold on July 11th in cooperation with our listing agent Andie Ohde of LIV Sotheby's International Realty.
Betsabell del Carmen Gomez Hernandez and Family Location: Tipitapa, NicaraguaDespite the difficulties Betsabell’s faces, she is happy to live in the community of Tipitapa. She regrets not staying in school while she was pregnant and earns about $167/month working in a nearby factory. Betsabell has a nine-year-old daughter, Maria, who loves to go on walks and play outside. Betsabell also has a baby boy, Ezequiel, 7-months. It’s unknown what happened to the father of her children. Betsabell looks forward a safer place to live and believes her new home will be a big step forward. “Poverty is the main problem, and very few is done to solve it,” says Betsabell.Betsabell's new home is made possible with the sale of Villa Annabella, which sold on June 30th in cooperation with our listing agent Richard Boga of Premier Estate Properties.
Flavia de Los Angeles Perez and Family Location: Tipitapa, NicaraguaFlavia is 27 years old, and the mother to two daughters. Arelys, who is 9 years old, and Genesis, 8 years old. They are both in their first year of primary school and enjoy mathematics. Flavia looks forward to having a better quality of life in their new home. She looks forward to a real roof and a wooden floor, not a floor made of dirt. Reyna Isabel Hernandez Perez and Family Location: Tipitapa, NicaraguaReyna is 60 years old and lives with her husband Enrique, 68 years old. Enrique works as a laborer, earning about $50/month. Reyna stays home to look after the grandchildren. They live with their grandchildren Arelys, 19 years old, Ninoska, 12 years old, Maryeli, 6 years old, Reyna is 5 years old, and Yuisman, 22 years old. All of her grandchildren are still in school and studying hard to make a better life for themselves. Maria Cristina Uriarte Location: Tipitapa, NicaraguaMaria is 46 years old and the head of a very large household. She lives with her four daughters, two sons, sister, daughter-in-law, and seven grandchildren. The young children like to play football, play with balloons, and toy cars. Raising her children alone has been extremely difficult for Maria. She works as a street vendor, selling fruits and vegetables to the community. She hopes a new home will provide an even better future for her grandchildren. “A new home will be a huge joy, a good achievement, like a dream come true,” says Maria. Juan Francisco Zavala RomeroLocation: Tipitapa, NicaraguaJuan Francisco is 59 years old. He’s a veteran and has suffered many injuries in his life, and has struggled because the government does not provide pension for him. He was in and out of the hospitals with injuries to his feet, arms, and eyes. He feels better now that he does not have to go to the hospital as frequently as he used to. “In order to be happy, one has to have work to get a means to survive,” says Juan Francisco.Juan's new home is made possible with the sale of 101 Carrier Road, which sold on June 6th in cooperation with listing agent partner Mark Jennings of Piatt Sotheby's International Realty.
Miriam Ninett Manzanarez Esquivel and FamilyLocation: Tipitapa, NicaraguaMiriam is 50 years old and her husband, Enso, is 52. Together, they work as street vendors, selling fruits and vegetables to the community. They live with their children, Juan Jose, 16 years old, Kerzy, 10 years old, Gerardo, 18 years old, Veronica, 18 years old, and Miriam, 22 years old. Their two grandchildren also live in the same household. Miriam wishes she could save more money and is grateful to finally have a real house for her family. Mariam's new home is made possible with the sale of Chateau 18, which sold on July 27th in cooperation with listing agent partner Monica Monson of Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty.
