Quail Rise Ranch

Deep in the heart of Texas, Baylor County was once a hardscrabble region where the Millet brothers worked tirelessly to establish their successful ranch amidst “one of the toughest spots this side of hell.” Today, the Quail Rise Ranch sits amongst gorgeous rolling plains, offering abundant solitude and recreational opportunities. Though the ranch feels a world away from civilization, it is effortless to travel to and from, being close to the town of Seymour on US-183. Take a short 26-minute flight into Seymour’s municipal airport from Dallas, or enjoy the open road (the DFW metroplex is under two and a half hours away). Lubbock is just over two hours away, while Oklahoma City is driveable in under three. Known for hunting, fishing, bird watching, and wildflowers, tiny Seymour plays host to the annual Fish Day (the official start of the fishing season on May 1) and the Old Settlers Reunion and Rodeo, which has run on the second weekend in July since 1896. The Whiteside Museum of Natural History is also a draw because the area around Seymour is one of the most significant Permian bone beds in the world.
