Destin calls itself "the world's luckiest fishing village," having grown from a small, low-key town into the Emerald Coast's most visited destination. It sits on the East Pass, the main connection between Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, making it ideal for boating, fishing, kayaking, and beachcombing. Destin has the largest charter fishing fleet between Galveston and Tampa, with more than 100 boats departing from HarborWalk Village and the Destin Pass. Along the harbor, HarborWalk Village always has something happening, with an abundance of shops, restaurants, and frequent events. Charter boats bring in a daily catch, much of it served at local restaurants just steps from the docks. Favorites include Harbor Docks and Dewey Destin's, along with Marina Cafe for upscale waterfront dining. Crab Island, a shallow sandbar inside the East Pass, draws boaters, kayakers, and paddleboarders to its clear water and white sandy bottom. Henderson Beach State Park is known for its sugar-white sand, made of 98% quartz. Silver Sands Premium Outlets, with more than 110 stores, and Destin Commons add world-class shopping and dining nearby. Golf at Kelly Plantation and Sandestin rounds out the offerings.
