Why would anyone want to live in Hawaii, let alone the North Shore of Hawaii? Once known as just a surfer’s paradise, the North Shore now has the reputation as a great place to get away from it all for all walks of life and even a great place to raise a family.
The North Shore of Oahu is the best kept, yet well-known secret destination. Besides surfing there are many other water and non-water related activities. Swimming, snorkeling and stand up paddling are fantastic when the waves subside, beach walks and watching a variety of brilliant sunsets year round. Then there are horseback riding, hiking, mountain and road biking (and dirt biking in cerlain areas) to experience the beauty of the mountains, valleys and interior of Oahu’s North Shore.
Sea turtles make their appearance regularly and can be spotted in the water and on the sand at Mokuleia, Alii Beach Park, Waimea Bay, Three Tables, Shark’s Cove, Rocky Point, Sunset Beach, Velzyland, Kawela Bay &Turlle Bay Resorl (not just at Laniakea!) It’s always a treat when the dolphins arrive, swimming, spinning and jumping as well as spotting the breaching whales during the winter and spring months.
The North Shore is more than just the surf capital of the world, famous for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing and the “7 mile miracle”. It embraces a lifestyle where casual elegance, relaxation and the daily celebration of life and living in one of the most beautiful places in Hawaii – possibly the world. Where one literally stops to smell the tropical flowers!
Though considered a small, rural town, Haleiwa is home for many professionals that work in “town” (Honolulu) sometimes enduring the traffic both directions to drive down the pineapple fields (now emerging with coffee & cacao plants, and Norfolk pines) to experience the open panoramic expanse of ocean and- home. The North Shore is also home (full-time and part-time) to famous writers, film industry folks, musicians, artists, painters, photographers, models, athletes – which includes of course the pro-surfer. All of whom blend in without a lot of fanfare or paparazzi with the rest of the community and the “regular folks”.
There is the awareness of supporting each other and the small business owner and shopping “local” whether it’s for soap, candles, jewelry, clothing, bikinis, baby gifts, surfboards, or vegetables, eggs and honey from the local farmer/grower or vendor. “Ohana” or family is important as is supporting each other with the “spirit of aloha”- literally meaning “to give of oneself to others, to offer your very breath of life to one in need, a way of living gently
with each other with mutual respect”.
Whether a humble beach shack to luxurious island-style home- there are many desirable places to live on the North Shore where the ocean can be seen and or heard. Which brings us to Paumalu Ranch … located above Sunset Beach overlooking the “7-mile Miracle” with views from Kaena Point to Turtle Bay Resort. This serene, one-of-a-kind property and location truly is magical. Where you can catch rainbows, spot wild pheasants and whales jumping in the same breath.
