Maybe it is different for those of us that truly market and sell luxury homes. I just can’t help but wonder when the change happened. I think it may have been around 2003, but not sure.
I decided to do a Google search for luxury homes. 36,300,000 results in .12 seconds. I almost didn’t believe it.
I drive down the road in some areas or cities and you see billboards for “Luxury Homes.” A billboard for a luxury home? Granite included? I see ads that mention luxury, the property has granite counter tops, but probably laminate floors or wall-to-wall carpet.
Now I don’t think there is anything wrong with these things, but luxury is not what it exudes. The type of luxury real estate that we represent is often times about the unique.
The home we are selling in the Vail Valley has custom hand crafted doors that look like they are antiques. They actually might be but I forgot to ask…. With 13,700 square feet there was a lot to cover.
Tulip Hill was a pre-Revolutionary Georgian mansion located outside of Annapolis. Our list of luxury properties can go on and on.
These homes are many times unique and not just in metro areas, but many times remote. The part that I find most fascinating is they all have an interesting story to tell.
A luxury home is not about the granite or floors, although many times it has them. The properties are unique and have a story to tell and aren’t best represented by a picture of granite counter-tops.
