A consistent drizzle began Thursday night and continued all Friday morning. But it didn’t stop the crowd of 60 from trekking around the 112-acre Robert Taylor Ranch off of Mandeville Canyon Road in Brentwood, California, anxiously awaiting their opportunity to bid on one of the largest land parcels available on Los Angeles’ Westside.
“The number of inquiries we had, resulting in 12 very qualified registered bidders, created a great deal of buzz and excitement about the opportunity to own this ranch,” said Mario Vargas, the onsite Senior Project Manager for Concierge Auctions.
Rain is often viewed symbolically as good luck, as it brings water to dry places and causes crops to thrive. Right before the bidding began at 1 p.m., the rain paused and low, cotton-like clouds hovering around the Santa Monica Mountains parted slightly, giving a glimpse of blue skies. Everyone gathered in the center lawn under a large tent, enjoying drinks and nibbling on small bites catered by Philip Sinsheimer.
Bidding started with a charity auction item of a two-night stay at the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara, with all of the proceeds benefiting the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Next, it was on to the main event: Who would be the new owner of this exceptional property?
“The bidding escalated fast and it was exciting,” Vargas said. “With the number of qualified bidders present, the energy in the room was high. It ultimately created a great outcome for the seller.”
Soaking up the outcome of the event, bidders and their agents lingered long after the gavel went down and Concierge’s auctioneer Frank Trunzo announced, “Sold.” As the final guest left and Vargas placed sold on the property’s sign, the light mist of rain started once more.
