Key for Key: Welcome Home June Update

It’s that time again where we would love to introduce you to some of our recent Key For Key™ home recipients! If you are new to our story, this program was founded to help transform the lives of many families, not only by providing roofs over their heads, but also by granting the empowerment and financial stability that comes with homeownership. It is because of you—our clients, agent partners, and friends—that we can continue to fund and build homes. This month, we are happy to share the stories of five wonderful families who recently received the keys to their new homes.

Adrián, 62 years old, has lived in the Los Lotes community for 14 years, some of which was with his eldest daughter and significant other, Luz S ánchez. His mother-in-law, Mercedes Sánchez, helped them obtain a parcel of land, and as time went by, they made Los Lotes into a beautiful home. What Adrián enjoys most is growing his plants and taking care of his chickens, and he says that life after receiving a new home is a blessing, as they will be able to live in tranquility.

Previously living in El Palomar, Erlinda made her way to Los Lotes, where she has lived for 42 years. Though she has numerous health complications, Erlinda sees the best in life and loves to read her Bible and sing. Her five sons take care of her and wish to hame homes and families of their own one day.

Flor, 24 years old, has lived her entire life in the Los Lotes community where she is a single-parent to her daughter, Brenda Eliizabeth. One of Flor’s biggest dreams is to improve her lifestyle for her and her daughter, and a new home means protection, security, and independence. Brenda, meanwhile, loves to draw and play with her mother—we would love to join in their fun!  

While most of Paula’s family has moved away from Los Ltes, Paula still calls it home. At 57 years old, she is the head of the household and loves to cook—quesadillas, nuégados, tamales, you name it—and sell her products locally. Ultimately, she hopes to have  a broiler farm as a business in the community, and her new home will start her on the path towards that dream.

Reineldo found his way to Los Lotes through his brother-in-law approximately 45 years ago. Now 81 years old, he is dedicated to agriculture—sowing corn and beans in the rainy season—and is passionate about soccer, especially as a former goalkeeper. As Reineldo puts it, having a home granted to him represents happiness because he will feel protected and secure. 

We are so grateful for the loving environment we get to experience when meeting these resilient families in person. Check back next month for updates from our second build trip of 2022 in El Salvador.
