Apr 19, 2023

With views of Villefranche-sur-Mer’s iconic bay and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, the historic estate known as  La Carriere will auction in May in cooperation with listing agent Luca Lanzani of Côte d'Azur Sotheby's International Realty. Currently listed for €12 million, the property  will sell with No Reserve. Bidding is scheduled to be held on 11–16 May via the firm’s digital marketplace, conciergeauctions.com, allowing buyers to bid remotely from anywhere in the world.

“We are extremely pleased to be offering this property at auction with Sotheby's Concierge Auctions. Their process allows sellers control over the sale of their property, from selecting the date of sale, to an unmatched marketing reach on an expedited timeline," stated Listing Agent, Luca Lanzani.

History meets luxury at the 550-square-meter former residence of Princess Margaret of Denmark and Prince René of Bourbon-Parma with walls of stone and fortress architecture dating back to 1920. Secluded and private, the prime location creates an atmosphere of tranquility. Views of Villefranche’s iconic bay, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, and the gardens can be seen from various vantage points and the turrets and ramparts that surround. At the highest terrace of the property, the French Riviera can be seen spanning below with its iconic beaches and coves. Host a meal in the spacious kitchen, formal dining room, or large reception hall, where neutral walls place arched windows at the center of attention, framing the stone fortress beyond.

Across La Carriere, a swimming pool with a terrace overlooking the gardens, sea, and mountains awaits. For added space, a detached poolside studio and cellar provide the perfect backdrop for guests of all kinds. Less than 20 minutes away, Monaco and downtown Nice await for exploration and relaxation, or jet to an alternate destination with the Côte d'Azur International Airport just 25 minutes away.

Founded early in the 14th century, the seaside town of Villefranche-sur-Mer sits nestled between Nice and Monaco. Cobblestone streets meet the bay waters beyond, with avenues peppered with red-tiled roof buildings and vaulted passages in between. Villefranche’s old town offers a robust arts scene with an array of galleries, museums, and local events. Beaches line the bay, where clear waters and a sheltered location make for an ideal climate.

The property is available for showings Monday–Friday from 2-5 PM and by appointment, and additionally available for private virtual showings.

As part of Sotheby's Concierge Auctions' Key for Key® giving program in partnership with Giveback Homes, the closing will result in a new home built for a family in need.

Agents will be compensated according to the information listed on the property page. See Auction Terms and Conditions for full details. For more information, including property details, exclusive virtual tour, diligence documents, and more, visit conciergeauctions.com or call +1.212.202.2940.
