Anyone who has traveled near or within the Rocky Mountains knows the beauty that they encompass. A number of sub-ranges of the Rocky Mountains touch the area around Big Sky, the most notable of which is the Madison range. The winter time brings the beauty of the snow fall, and the summer brings mild weather, abundant flora and fauna, and some major waterways.

The most notable and common recreation activity in Big Sky is of course the skiing. Big Sky is the largest ski resort in the United States by acreage, with 5,750 acres. In the warmer months, activities include golf, frisbee golf, scenic lift rides, and tennis. There is also a movie theatre and an up-and-coming art scene.
